Well Wood Tackstrip goes on wood floor. And concrete Tackstrip goes on concrete. 

Tackstrip is wood strips with little nails sticking up at an angle that grab the carpet.  Putting down tackstrip is the first thing done on a carpet job.          There are 2 main types of tackstrip... wood and concrete

$4.00-$5.00 a yard  cost to install Berber carpet

$4.00 a yard is the "base" price to install new carpet

$1.00 a square yard is the price to remove old carpet or about 11 cents a square foot.     Depending on the person you can do removal yourself here's some tips.      Cut the carpet  into 2-3 foot strips and roll it up to move out. You can leave the tack strip if you are going to put carpet back.
