$1.00 a square yard is the price to remove old carpet or about 11 cents a square foot.     Depending on the person you can do removal yourself here's some tips.      Cut the carpet  into 2-3 foot strips and roll it up to move out. You can leave the tack strip if you are going to put carpet back.

 $4.00-5.00  per square yard.   Is basically the flat rate . +/-  depending on the carpet.    Some People Break It Down To Square Feet to try and make it sound cheaper.   Because $4.50 a yard is the same as .50 cents a square foot.   Don't ever pay 1 dollar a square foot that is 9 dollars a yard. Twice the price.      $ 2.50  is a price per square foot that you can get the carpet the pad and installation .          $22.50 a square yard  is what $2.50 a square foot ends up being. so say 4$ a yard for labor, 3$ for pad. that would leave 15.50 a square yard for carpet.  that's not the best carpet  but it's not bad.
